During the COVID-19 crisis, Coastal Hospice is suspending all in-person volunteer activity, effective immediately. This includes home care visits, salutes to service, and volunteer engagements in the community. Our region is experiencing an influx of cases and we ask all of you to take care of yourself by following the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines.
Even though many of our volunteer initiatives are suspended, we still need your help. Here are some ways you can help:
- If you currently have an assignment, we encourage you to make regular check-in calls to your patient and/or family. They will feel more isolated than ever during this state of emergency. Please document each call and continue to send in your visit notes.
- We are in need of handmade masks for our staff and blankets for our patients. You can find instructions on how to sew the face masks here. If you have items to donate, please call us at 410-742-8732 and we will arrange a pickup.
The staff in the volunteer services office is working each day though their hours may be limited, so please leave a message if there is no answer and someone will return your call the next day. Be safe and be well.
You can make a big difference
Many Coastal Hospice volunteers say it is an experience that changes their lives.
Coastal Hospice is a non-profit organization providing compassion, comfort and care to those nearing the end of life and their families. We are a vital part of the Lower Shore community, and volunteers are a vital part of our service.
Tell us your interests and how and where you would like to help, and we will match you with one of our volunteer opportunities. We can work within your schedule, and give you the skills you’ll need to be a Coastal Hospice volunteer.
Ways you can help
Patient and Family Care
Our volunteers visit with patients and their families in their own homes or at a facility, and offer the support they need by running errands, providing companionship, fixing lunch, or giving caregivers a much-needed break.
Staff and Office Support
Our volunteers assist with office duties and community education, prepare mailings, attend health fairs, and help with fundraising events.
Our Thrift Shop in Berlin supports Coastal Hospice at the Ocean. Our volunteers assist customers, create displays, operate the cash register, or sort and price donations.
Part of our mission is to continue to support families after their loved one has passed. Our volunteers make phone calls, prepare mailings and assist with our grief support group meetings.
We Honor Veterans
Our veteran volunteers visit our veteran patients, present them with a certificate of honor and patriotic blanket, and thank them for their service.
Compass – Connecting You to Support at Home
