Brigadier General USA (Ret.) Robert A. Harleston gives the salute of honor to Coastal Hospice patient Evan Rossignol of Salisbury on Thursday, Aug. 22. Rossignol was a captain in the Air Force from 1960-66, and previously worked as a pharmacist at PRMC, Nanticoke Hospital and local pharmacies.
Gen. Harleston also presented the patient with an American flag blanket and a certificate of honor as part of Coastal Hospice’s “We Honor Veterans” program, an initiative of the National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
There are over 21 million veterans living in America today. These men and women often carry experiences from their military service that present unique health care challenges. The We Honor Veterans program empowers hospices to meet the unique needs of these veterans and their families, and Coastal Hospice is a proud member of this program.
We honor the veterans in our care by thanking them for their service, listening to their stories and helping them receive the support they’ve earned. We honor them with special visits, including honor salutes, presenting them with personalized certificates and patriotic blankets donated by the community.
We also assist veterans in enrolling and accessing VA benefits and coordinating care with the VA and other healthcare organizations. On Veteran’s Day, we hold special honor ceremonies open to all veterans across our service area.
